Social Movements
This course examines the development of some of the most significant international social movements, with a special focus on the labor movement, from the end of the Ancien Régime in 1789 to today. It analyzes the social movements that contributed to the French Revolution, the Paris Commune, the birth of the Soviet Union, the Cultural Revolution in China, and the student movement of 1968 in France, among many other topics and events across the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. These social movements will be critically analyzed through the principal theoretical documents written by their leading leaders and intellectuals, as well as through the examination of their practical forms of organization and development.
